Woodwork in Reception

After some research, we decided that woodworking would really enhance our children's learning. It can cover so many different areas of learning! So, in the Spring term we began introducing it to the children.

First, the children spent time exploring wood and trees. We looked a different trees and saw how planks of wood were made from trees. We also explored different types of wood and things that were made from wood. The children became really good at spotting wood everywhere - even when it was painted!

Then we went on a visit to Kerri's Pine workshop. We had a fantastic morning. The children watched a real carpenter put together a cabinet. Then they spent some money they'd made at a cake sale at the shop. Finally, they had a delicious hot chocolate and cookie in the café.

Back at school, the children have learnt how to use tools carefully and are now designing, making and improving their own pieces of woodwork. We are very proud of them.

Our Schools

Synergy Multi-Academy Trust comprises ten Norfolk schools serving children between the ages of 2 and 18. Our schools work collaboratively together to raise standards and provide education of the highest possible standard, offering the best of opportunities for pupils. The Trust was initially established in 2015. We believe that all of our schools have strengths and areas to develop, and that all can improve through sharing expertise and wisdom. The Trust understands that there will be excellent practice in each school, and that every school will be able to contribute to the development of the Trust as a whole.
